Whoops! The Dollar Bill reveal is backwards.
Whoops! The Dollar Bill reveal is backwards.
Think about this. If your routine suggests that the image of George Washington and the “5 Spade” reveal transfers from the dollar bill to your hand, it would be a mirror image. The Stained Skin tattoo is a replica of G.W. not a mirror image.

i saw that in the preview, and that's what turned me off from stained skin (along with other things).

And of course since it's not a mirror image it won't get you any reactions. I'll tell you what. How about you roll up your sleeves and find a solution for the issue. Find a way to incorporate it into your routine in a way that it still makes sense in spite of it not being a mirror image. Not only will you have created your very own routine, you'll have become a better magician for it.

Although I totally agree with shaunkara, here's my thought.
Perhaps rather than pressing your palm onto the bill with that side up, maybe turn the bill over and press the bill into your palm with that side facing outwards? That way it's like the image melted through, and as it melted through it distorted the writing, to now say 5 Spades (or whatever the reveal is, I'm not 100% certain)
And that's just incase the audience notices! Its funny that we sometimes forget that they won't always have the same thought process as us when having the effect performed on them. Small things (like this not being mirrored as if it were really transfered) can go unoticed when presented right.
But yeah, that's my thought, but take shaunkara's advice, part of the brilliance of these tatoos is that YOU come up with the ideas and effects, put some thought into it, and when you blow someone away with something you thought up, you'll feel all the more satisfied.

I was merely pointing out that the tattoo is backwards. The DVD teaches a singular trick where this tattoo is the reveal. If one followed the trick’s patter and presentation, the non-mirror image contradicts what the magician is trying to convey. I doubt the layman would notice at all.
And be honest, how many amateurs and beginning magicians are going to “roll up their sleeves” and look for original ways to present Stained Skin. Most want a pre-packaged magic trick where all the work is done for them.
I agree, however, that being original and creative is the best way to approach commercial magic so you may make it your own. I have completely disregarded any of the suggested reveals in Stained Skin and I applied my own story and patter towards the Tattoo Reveal. (I have already performed this and the reactions were pretty strong).

I use the little trick from fruad to wear down the face of the dollar (just what the tattoo has) and then it looks as if it has come off people dont even relies that it is not a mirror image.

I haven't seen what you guys are talking about because I've just gotten back into the forums. But from what I can tell, I might have a solution. As the reveal is taking place...rub the hand over the spot as if "rolling" the image, almost like a printing press (which has a mirror image of what is printed). And possibly even use a printing press patter (nice alliteration huh? Or is that consonance?). Just my thoughts.

I don't like how the fact you think most magicians want a pre packaged trick. I mean what makes magicians are actually their own creativity. I mean If you see every magician doing the same tricks it would get quite boring and no one could pull people apart. Every True Magician has their own style and own ways to making themselves unique. Like Brad and others have said before. Everything here is to broaden your mind and make you think of ways to make these tricks your own by tweaking them out or even coming up with your own. I can't speak for everyone but as for myself Im not here to sit and wait for the next big thing, like others can agree with is how bout you become the next big thing. Yes its hard work to get a really good trick but with the time, effort and patience it will all pay off once you perform it with ease and amaze people with the reactions that will make you feel good about yourself knowing you did your job well.

Buy the red gaff deck. It has a mirrored 5 of spades.
Then do shapeshifter.
