Hey everyone! It’s been a long time, about 2 years according to my PM box haha. Well I’m back in the magic community, and tearing it up (or at least trying to!). Some of you may remember me and my posts, and others may have forgotten or dropped off the face of the earth too.
I wanted to talk about something before I start talking the forum again. The reason I left is because I let it take over my life almost. I would spend hours with a deck of cards or messing around with an M5, maybe even a French drop here and there. I was missing out on so much though, the little things. We get so engrossed by new effects, awesome hyped up demos and we totally neglect the basics. After a while it gets hard and frustrating. So, finding that balance of life and hobby was tough. I see it a lot in other kids coming up in the art asking a million questions in the product area or reviewing so many products. What about what you already have? I bet the massive amounts of slights in the DVD’s you already own are enough to practice for a year or so. What about creating your own effects? Being original? I mean look at the people we look up too, how many of them where followers? So when I looked at all of what I had I realized I had dug myself into a whole (financially) and decided to just perform when no one would expect it. So I’ve still been performing at parties, for my cousin’s and family. After performing last month at a party though it brought a total new rush back into magic for me. I was performing my ambitious card routine, Kaos, Coins to glass and some other stuff like card to pocket. It was awesome, the reactions where insane, people where throwing things, and it got out of hand pretty fast haha. The bug of performing never leaves, I can seriously mean that, and sometimes a break is needed to absorb all those lessons… you can only show so many people the same tricks. But it helped me realize how much I need to refine my slights and work at it.
So where was I? I actually had an awesome opportunity with the band I was in. I toured New England, met a lot of awesome people and got to stand in front of hundreds of people. That’s something I couldn’t trade for anything, writing music with my best friends and getting to share it with so many awesome people. Well last summer the band broke up and I’ve just been focusing on getting out of college. It’ll happen I swear! Haha
So anyways… I’m back… And I have a ton of knowledge up in the brain of mine so if you need some help or be pointed in the right direction, please let me know!
Magic isn’t the only thing in life, have other hobbies, be involved with the world around you… It’ll make the patter you create real and amazing because you will have these great true stories to align it with
