    Tarantula Review

I have had the turantula for a while now and it is great! I heard that it is not worth it if you have little or no experience with string but to me this is nonsence as long as you take it easy while practicing. I had only used loops a little bit but, forgot an important part of them (stretching) so they all broke. I do not break the thread much at all. WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE TRYING ANYTHING!!! It explains it extremely well. The only problem I had is I lost the wax once haha. Onto the review now haha.

    The teaching:

Ok, to me the dvd was top notch. It explained it realy well! He goes through the gimmick completely, tells you how to get the thread back if it breaks how to adjust it for your needs. It goes through everything. Now for the tricks. He shows you how to do them. Gives tips on what to say while preforming them (personaly I think there could be better ways to talk while in the tricks then he did but it is still good!). He has great tricks on there! My favorite is the ring flight but all of them are good and I do them all. He does not leave anything out and has tips at the end. You are left with no questions unanswered. I give the dvd a 9 out of 10

    The trick:
You have seen the trick be performed in the trailers. What you see is what you get. The trick is completely amazing! You will freak anyone out with the ring! But, all of the tricks on there are mind blowing! I give the trick a 10 out of 10!

    The gimmick:

The gimmick is ingenious! You are in complete controll the whole time! Not a whole lot that can go wrong that can not be played off. It is well constructed but there is a spot that will come loose after a little bit, but a little rubber cement fixes it right up and never comes loose again. It is not a draw back at all. You will see what I mean if you get the trick. I give the gimmick a 10 out of 10

Over all I give everything together a 9 out of ten because the only thing I think would over all deserve a 10 is real magic or something that is as close as you could ever get.

Honestly no. It is an ingenious reel and you would not be disapointed. The tread is thread, what I mean by that is it goes by rules of other threads, floresant lighting NO GOOD! You can do it but extremely hard. But if you want to be safe, even use a shadow of a tree or something so the light is not directly on it. That is only for the ring though the others are fool proof! Great buy!

This gimick is really good but requires alot of maintance. You will need to get more wax right away and fix the gimick to be less detectable. Once you get it you'll understand but I believe more supplies should have been included in such a pricey piece. I was not satisfied only because there wasn't anything informing how much everything would end up costing. In all truth its worth every bit and will bring your magic to the next level with alot of practice.
If fire isnt supposed to be played with, why is it so fun?

So is the gimmick big or easy to carry around? And can you show your hands completly empty while performing?

Tarantula is amazing once you learn how to use it. The reason most people say to have some experience with invisible thread before buying Tarantula is so that you know the capabilities and limitations of thread. Thread is difficult to work with and you will break alot of thread learning what you can and can't do. The DVD you get with Tarantula is very good... but the tricks covered on that DVD are only the beginning of what you can do with it.

Some people that get Tarantula and are dissappointed by its small size and its simplicity (especially in light of its price). But remember, the Tarantula is only a tool, what you are buying is the ability to learn how to use that tool to do mindblowing effects.

If you get the Tarantula, get extra spools of Mesika's Spider Spooler Thread (not the plain thread, but the pre-spooled thread) and extra Mesika wax dots. The extra spools are around $9 a spool (the two pack is a good deal at around $14 to $15) and the wax dots are around $7 to $8. WARNING - the Tarantula takes different batteries than the Spider Pen, so don't buy the Spider Pen Batteries thinking that they will work with the Tarantula. The Tarantula comes with a battery and if you need to replace it the replacement battery is easily found.

The DVD teaches four effects - hover ring, magnetic money, magic pen and haunted deck. You can see those effects in the trailer. With a good amount of practice (probably going through 2 spools of IT) you can learn do those effects. They are as cool as they look on the trailer.

If you are just interested in learning one of those effects, it probably isn't worth it.

Ff you want a reel for doing IT work, Tarantula is the best you can get. If you understand what IT can do (and what it can't do) and if you learn to use the Tarantula, it is an amazing tool for developing and performing your own effects. In that case, it is well worth the $70.

I have been looking into either getting the tarantula or the loops, which would be better to start off with. I dont have much experience working with thread or similar gimmicks.

If the gimmick broke, you can glue it back together. See paragraph #3 in the instruction sheet that came with the Tarantula.

If it just stopped working, try replacing the battery. If that doesn't work, look at the instruction sheet that came with the Tarantula and do what it says in paragraph #4.

If you still have a problem, you can contact support@mesikamagic.com (any problems must go through Mesika Magic regardless of where you bought the Tarantula).

Loops are around $10 and the Tarantula is around $70. First, try working with Loops (the package comes with 6 loops and two effects) or regular invisible thread to see if you like working with thread. Note that Loops are invisible elastic thread (which stretches) and the Tarantula uses invisible thread (which doesn't stretch). If you like working with thread, then spend the $70 on the Tarantula.

I am a teenager thinking about the tarantula. I have also heard talk of "fitting the gimmick to your hand" because i have smallish hands do you think it will affect me?

It shouldn't affect you. The adjustments only are necessary if the gimmick is too small for your hands.
